Why have some antique dealers put a padded seat over the original cane on chairs? It not only is ugly - it is just not right! Hopefully we can rescue some of these chairs before they get a hideous pad on them!
after working for a week to weave my first Cane Seat, I can understand how attractive an alternative might seem. Now, I have to weave the back of the chair, too.
My mom got so excited when she saw my first woven cane seat and asked me if I could "Fix" three chairs for her. My father had bought them at an antique store and all of them had the caning replaced with a padded seat. She said they were the most uncomfortable things she'd ever sat on.
I just purchased two lovely antique walnut chairs in Tucson, AZ and I want to buy two of these dreaded chair seats. I know they are ugly and uncomfortable and I am going to cane them soon but want to begin to use them now. Any idea where one can buy them? Thanks.
